When not engaged on the ranch, Tad and Buster are frequently interested in extra work. It therefore comes as no surprise to see them laboring as grave diggers in the small community.
It seems that old man Dean recently went to his reward. Dean was a wheeler-dealer type of the slash and burn persuasion. He was the sort of man people speak to politely but secretly dislike intensely.
Knowing full well of Dean's character, Tad has just commented how remarkable it is to see the large number of people attending the funeral for the man whose grave they had just finished.
