Captain Simpson is a grizzled old salt who runs a tight ship. Once the captain was speaking to his mate, a fellow with strong views as to the rights of the working class:
"Mr. Jackson," says he, "Am I to understand that, below decks in the crew's quarters, various materials advocating certain political views are displayed for all to see?"
The mate hesitates, then replied tentatively,
"Aye captain; that is so."
"Mr. Jackson, has it never occurred to you that all the crew might not appreciate being compelled to view such materials or otherwise recognize their worth?"
"Aye, that's true captain."
"And therefore, what action do you intend to take, Mr. Jackson?"
"Well, captain, I'll arrange for all the non-conformists to be put ashore at the next opportunity ..."
