Nicholi had just returned from a business trip to Moscow, and after a glass of hot tea and some home-made cakes, he settled back. His wife was in a chatty mood now and began to talk.
"You know," Nicholi said to his wife, "on the way back from Moscow I had a few uneasy moments. The conductor passed by and looked at me very strangely."
"What do you mean?" asked his wife.
"Well, he looked at me as if I had no ticket."
"So what did you do?"
"What could I do? I looked right back at him just as if I did ..."
