It seems that Fielding, the miser, just before he went to his reward, gave strict instructions to his household as to procedures to be followed upon his demise. After thorough consideration, Fielding determined to take at least some of his horde with him.
His servant was directed to some cash hidden on the premises and instructed to fill two sacks with the cash and place them in the attic immediately over the miser's bed, where they would be convenient as he passed enroute to heaven.
Some weeks after the funeral, as the servant was engaged in a final emptying of the house, he came across the two forgotten sacks, still firmly fixed in the attic.
"Fool," the man muttered. "I knew he should have had me place these in the basement ..."
