The area authorities for a certain religious group, challenged to reduce the complexity of their services, hit upon the idea of asking local church congregations to conduct fewer meetings in languages other than English.

One pastor refused to yield.

"It's our responsibility to minister to the members in their native tongue," said he.

A senior official looked him in the eye and asked,

"Do you believe the Lord understands English?"

Returning stare for stare, the pastor replied,

"He understands it, but he doesn't like it ..."

----------------A Final Thought ...

"If English is spoken in heaven ... God undoubtedly employs Cranmer as his speechwriter. The angels of the lesser ministries probably use the language of the New English Bible and the Alternative Service Book for internal memos."
