Not long ago it seems a fellow had adopted mysticism and soothsaying as his trade. Not wanting to get ahead of what he perceived as his "calling," he determined to labor in an obscure corner of the country. As this took place coincidentally with the rise of "new age" thinking, he was confident that success was before him.
After a number of years in decidedly precarious circumstances, the fellow received an offer from a large and famous institution, which offered a considerably enhanced position and commensurate compensation. The man replied that he would seek enlightenment from the "great beyond" and then give an answer in a short time.
The mystic's little boy was down at the grocery store not long thereafter, and was asked whether his father had decided to take the new position.
The boy replied,
"I don't know, pa is still communing and striving for inner peace about the matter ... but we have the things about packed."
