Pa is seated with a group of his younger grandchildren. With utmost solemnity, Pa is expounding upon tales from his early days, especially the time he spend in the Pacific during the war. One such tale involves a terrifying encounter with cannibals. As Pa is a notorious braggart, such experiences are always subject to a degree of skepticism.
"There I was," Pa begins, "lost in the middle of the jungle, surrounded by 20 hungry cannibals."
One grandson interrupts,
"But last time you told this story, there were only 10 hungry cannibals."
As an experienced braggart, Pa recovers with appropriate dignity and without interruption,
"Ah, but you were too young then to know the whole horrible truth ..."
