A fellow is innocently driving down a country road, when he spots Pa standing in the middle of a huge field of grass. Not quite knowing what to expect, he pulls the car over to the side of the road and gathers that Pa is just standing there, doing nothing, looking at nothing.
Our subject walks all the way out to where Pa is standing and asks him,
"Ah, excuse me mister, but what are you doing?"
After an uncomfortable silence Pa responds,
"Well, if you must know I'm working on a research grant."
"Oh," replies the stranger, "I'm sure that's fine, but you don't seem to be producing much activity."
"Don't need to," says Pa. "I read this morning that grants will be available to people who are out standing in their field ..."
