Back at home with Ma and Pa, we find the old couple engaged in one of their not infrequent disputes, again centering on Pa's latest "Sure-Fire" system for the lottery.
At the peak of his vexation, Pa remarked,
"I wonder what ever happened to the old-fashioned girls who knew their place fainted when a man kissed them?"
Ma gave him a withering look,
"What I'd like to know," said she, "is what happened to the old-fashioned men who made them faint ..."
