Economy of Labor

Back Next

Today we find Pa visiting with his neighbor, Mrs. Whack:

"Woman," Pa said, wearily, "has no idea of economy of labor. Of course, Ma has a hard time in many ways, but it's largely her own fault."She likes to work."

"Why do you say that?" demanded Mrs. Whack.

"Why, just by way of illustration, there's that curtain lecture Ma has given me every lodge night now for over a year. Same old lecture delivered in the same old way, and still she fails to take advantage of modern inventions.

"Just think what a saving it would be if Ma had used a tape recorder ..."

---------------A Final Thought ...

"I begin with the principle that all men are bores. Surely no one will prove himself so great a bore as to contradict me in this."

- Søren Kierkegaard (1813–55), Danish philosopher. Either/Or, vol. 1, “Rotation of Crops” (1843)
