This fall naturally was county fair season. Ma and Pa, whose somewhat turbulent relationship we occasionally visit in these pages, made their way to the fair and drifted toward the seedy end of the midway. Pa's attention was drawn to a booth advertising, "Madam Ogla: Queen of Gypsies."
Several dollars later Pa is seated before an exceedingly aged woman who asks how she can help him.
I was wondering," began Pa, "If you could possibly remove a 'Curse' that I have lived with for over 50 years."
A bit surprised, the old Gypsy replied:
"Perhaps, but you must tell me the exact words that were used to put the curse on you."
Pa says without hesitation :
"I now pronounce you man and wife."
