The hunter was noted for his tenacity and skill at the chase. Having assembled with a group of interested fellows, he related his most recent experience:
"Out in Alaska I was on the trail of a giant, ferocious brown bear and was gone three days. He was obviously a monster, but I had to return empty-handed in any case."
"Lost the trail, I suppose?" asked one of his cronies.
"Naw, I kept on the trail all right."
"Then what's the matter?"
"Well ... them footprints were getting too fresh ... so I quit."
