My brothers rarely let circumstances stand in the way of a really good line, especially if some satire might be involved. One brother's specialty involved striking up philosophical discussions on some obscure point in public places. As we were waiting in line at a shopping center many years ago, he launched into a discussion of the origins of certain popular holiday observances.
"Oh, the Easter Bunny fulfills a vital purpose," I responded.
"And what might that be?"
"Well, I'm told that every year, when the Easter Bunny appears, if he sees his shadow then it's six more weeks until Labor Day."
Adopting a very serious and reflective attitude, he replied,
"I'd always wondered about Labor Day ..."
