W.C. Fields was more easily annoyed than most people by a persistent sales pitch. Once an insurance peddler refused to be shaken, even following Fields into a barber shop. The man just kept at him, hoping to wear down his resistance.
Finally Fields had enough. "How many times must I say no to you?" he bellowed. "Just to get rid of you, I'll talk to my lawyer about it in the morning."
"And will you do the right thing if he likes my offer?" replied the salesman.
"I certainly will," Fields exclaimed. "I'll get another lawyer."
