As with many entertainers, the famous Al Jolson was a hard man to handle. A young director once tried to persuade him to alter a piece of business and was immediately in trouble.
Jolson halted the proceedings, stared at the young man, and spoke. Said he, "Listen, kid, I've got a million dollars. What do you have?"
Quickly, yet quietly, the response came, "Friends."
