Once at a very elegant dinner party Mark Twain was in attendance and the subject of discussion turned to eternal life and future punishment. Twain sat in

attentive silence throughout the conversation.

Finally his hostess, "Why do you not say anything?" I would like to hear your opinion."

"Madam, you must excuse me." Twain replied. "I am silent of necessity - I have friends in both places."
