Once while accompanied by fellow journalist and humorist Franklin Pierce Adams, Woollcott was approached by an admirer and asked to sign a first edition of his book, "Shouts and Murmurs.
"Ah, what is so rare as a Woollcott first edition?" he murmured to his admirer as he granted the request.
"A Woollcott second edition," replied Adams.
