Barbara Cartland (1902-2000), noted author of popular romantic fiction, fell into the royal orbit when her daughter Raine's stepdaughter became the Princess of Wales in 1981. Yes, I agree that's decidedly remote, but facts are facts.
When Cartland was interviewed by a noted radio program in the U.K., the woman interviewer asked whether she thought the class barriers in Britain had been broken down.
"Of course they have," replied Cartland, "or I wouldn't be sitting here talking to someone like you ..."
