Lady Nancy Astor, who entered the House of Commons in 1919 as its first woman member, had few betters in the art of vicious repartee--but she did have some and one was Winston Churchill.
After one hot and heavy Parliamentary session, Lady Astor said to Churchill,
"Winston, if you were my husband I would poison your coffee."
"If you were my wife, Madam," said he suavely, "I would surely drink it."
