A common practice among many schools of higher learning is to employ student guides as tour escorts to visiting potential students. One such recent encounter at a prestigious university involved a mother and her daughter.
The guide, much taken with the status of the university, went on at length regarding the nationally ranked library and state-of-the-art science facilities. She informed them that the professors were the best in the country, and recommended that the student apply early to improve her chances for admission.
"We get so many applicants," she bragged, "because of the stature of the school."
After the tour the mother enquired of the guide,
"So, why did you choose this school?"
"Oh," she replied matter-of-factly, "my boyfriend goes here ..."
----------------A Final Thought ...
"I am not impressed by the Ivy League establishments. Of course they graduate the best—it’s all they’ll take, leaving to others the problem of educating the country. They will give you an education the way the banks will give you money-provided you can prove to their satisfaction that you don’t need it."
