A Professor of Econometrics was on vacation in the Scottish Highlands. He was walking the hills one day when he came across a shepherd with an enormous flock of sheep spread all over the hills and glens. After chatting for a while the learned Professor said to the shepherd that he could tell him exactly how many sheep were in his flock.

After much debate it was agreed that if the Professor. got the answer right he would receive one of the sheep.  984 was the correct answer and the Professor. duly selected his sheep and was about to walk away with his trophy when the shepherd said to him,

"I'll bet you the beastie back that I can tell you which college you are a Professor of."

The Professor  could not believe the shepherd could possibly have deduced the answer from their conversation and willingly agreed to the bet.

Harvard was the correct answer to the utter disbelief of the Professor.

" How on earth did you deduce that?"

"Gie me my dog back and I'll tell ye"
