Melville W. Fuller (1833-1910), tenth chief justice of the U. S. Supreme Court presided at a church conference when a delegate began a tirade against education and universities:
"I thank God," said he, "That have never been corrupted by contact with any college."
Fuller interrupted, "Do I understand that the speaker thanks God for his ignorance?"
The speaker replied, "Well, yes, if you want to put it that way."
"Then," said Fuller, "All I have to say is that you have a great deal to be thankful for ..."
---------------A Final Thought ...
"I am not impressed by the Ivy League establishments. Of course they graduate the best—it’s all they’ll take, leaving to others the problem of educating the country. They will give you an education the way the banks will give you money—provided you can prove to their satisfaction that you don’t need it."
