The situation was certainly grave. The local parson had been called to the deathbed of a prominent attorney.

"How if the patient?" asked the parson.

"I'm afraid he's lying at death's door," replied the doctor.

The parson sighed. "Poor soul; going to meet his Maker and still lying ..."
