Many years ago "Big Bill" was newly arrived in the United States from the Old Country. Consistent with his name, Bill was an intimidating presence and immediately found employment in a major department store as a floorwalker.
It was to be expected, therefore, that Bill was feeling quite pleased with himself. His future in America seemed assured, the job paid tolerably well, and the hours weren't too bad. In a few months, however, Bill had packed everything in and applied to the police force for employment.
"Just why do you want to be a policeman," inquired the interviewing sergeant.
"Several reasons," replied Bill.
"For one thing, the hours and pay will be better than my old job, but the best part," said he in disgust, "is that the customer is always wrong ..."
