The Businessman

Back Next

A businessman, tired from a long day on the road, checked into a hotel. As he was concerned that the dining room might close soon, he left his luggage in the checkroom and went immediately to eat. After a leisurely dinner, he reclaimed his luggage and realized that he had forgotten his room number.

Returning to the desk, he encountered the exceedingly stuffy night clerk.

"My name is W.A. Rolke," said he. "Could you please tell me what room I am in?"

"Certainly," replied the clerk indifferently. "You're in the lobby."
