During my school time many years ago I had a debate class. Toward the end of the term I was working hard for an A, and in one particular public debate session I had a run of extremely good luck: I had the best part of the argument and my opponent wasn't especially good. I thought I'd try something dramatic and assure success in the course.
There is a passage in Shakespeare's Henry V that talks about the burden of the king. Its quite moving and was appropriate for my talk, so I began quoting from memory. About mid-point I forgot the quote, so I had no choice but to "improvise." After a line or two I was able to get back on track and finish the quote.
When the proceedings were done for the day a distinguished gentleman came up to me:
"Young man," said he, "I am the English professor for this university, and I must tell you frankly, that was by far the most unique quote from Shakespeare I've ever heard ..."
